Добавлен 1 июл 2009
Bristol Zoological Society is a conservation and education charity which owns and operates Bristol Zoo Project.
We lead ground-breaking conservation and research projects spanning five continents across the world. With nearly a quarter of all mammal species and a third of amphibians threatened with extinction, there’s an urgent need to safeguard our wildlife. From the forests of the Philippines to the shores of South Africa to right here in south west England, we work tirelessly with local communities to save wildlife, improve the environment and enrich lives.

Work begins on our new Central African Forest habitat
Work has BEGUN on our new Central African Forest habitat, opening next year!
The first turf has been cut for the new habitat, which will house some of the world’s most endangered species, including our existing troop of Critically Endangered western lowland gorillas.
The new area has been designed to evoke a sense of the dense forest and landscape of Equatorial Guinea, where we run one of our largest conservation projects.

The camera traps that our conservation team have set up in Monte Alén National Park, Equatorial Guinea, help us to understand the diversity, distribution, and density of the park’s wildlife, as well as threats against them. They also provide us with some incredible footage of the species that live there!

We recently caught up with our troop of Western lowland gorillas to see how they've been getting on at Bristol Zoo Gardens. Despite closing in September 2022, staff continue to work around the clock to look after the animals in our care before they move to new homes at other zoos and collections around the world, or to the new Bristol Zoo at Wild Place Project.

When we feed the leeches with cow blood, after a few days, some of the leeches got sick and have different shapes. We clean the water, besides that what should we do about that? to not sick?
Reduce water level to a low level, and add catappa leaves/alder cones. The cow blood you fed them probably contained harmful thinners that can kill a leech, so find somewhere else to get the blood from.
How is Hasani?
no sound? thumbs down.
You need to reopen the zoo do you have now with only got Noah's Ark soon you were better than Noah's oxygen now you've let Noah's Oxhey to destroy Bristol now we are now the old one the fifths old is there in the world is left was London Zoo Edinburgh and Chester Chessington

Me gustaría constatar que son felices. Le veo la carita de los bebes y la expresión de esos ojos tan hermosos, y lo que pienso y me gustaría mucho saber es si son felices.
RIP Bristol Zoo
Still a jail for animals - zoos putting the con in conservation...
Elephants won’t be in the new zoo. Also, most of the animals that were in Brustol Zoo Gardens have new homes in other zoos. Bristol Zoo Project will focus on species where the team can have a conservation impact whether through conservation breeding or conservation work in the wild
Hope to visit very soon! Are the animals from the Zoo Gardens?
Will elephants be part of the future?
Weird
🦍🤎🥳Magnificent- Peter Gorilla number one
can you guess what my name is ?

I'm going to miss those lions.
I hope they do well at their new home. I'll miss seeing Lions at Bristol Zoo when it reopens at the Wild Place Project.
This video makes it appear like it's a happy day for Bristol Zoo, but in reality it's the saddest.
So adorable!
Thank you for the amazing opportunity to film these little guys.
Out of curiosity, will the new site ever have elephants?
I hope
Is this troop staying together and moving to the new zoo?
Hi Sharon, yes they are!
The plans for building imposing, high density luxury residences on the zoo site must be opposed as they will do little to alleviate Bristol’s housing problems, will increase traffic immeasurably and are totally out of keeping in a conservation area. Local community liaison has not been conducted nor views taken on board. Very few of the animals are being located to The Wild Place, with most mammals being given to other zoos. 45% of the trees on the site will need to be felled. Yes, urban zoos and caged animals have had their day but the zoo management board have not considered alternative, low rise proposals for the site such as OurWorld Bristol’s transformative proposals for a sustainable attraction that utilises a virtual and augmented reality animal kingdom, educational and immersive experiences set within a lush future-proofed environment. They have opted instead to seek planning permission for inappropriately large and high value housing with little outside space, in order to maximise revenue. They plan more residences than parking spaces forcing traffic to park on the site’s (pedestrian) thoroughfares and the (already congested) local streets. Assurances that the grounds will still be open to the public could be rescinded by the developers at the earliest opportunity and are not in the gift of the zoo management to make anyway. A picturesque, historically important part of Bristol’s fabric that attracted a constant flow of visitors except for an obvious pandemic dip is being ripped out to generate an inappropriately sized luxury gated community. It will be a tragedy for Bristol if a small number of zoo management ‘leaders’ assisted by highly paid consultants and legal teams gain planning permission for a project that is motivated by profit regardless of community objections.
You should of never closed
I would love to bottle feed these baby lions. They are sweeter than sweet.
Release them into the wild???? Mf I’ll kill you if you keep doing that shit, release them into your house
Poor Mom trying to keep prying Eye away from.

小狮子好可爱
I absolutely would love to have her job!!!!❤❤❤❤
The dark truth is when they ended the lives of the animals 😭
That means the animals get chopped up and killed 😭😭 pls don’t kill them they have so much to live for 😭😭😢😢 or I will meet you in court for abusing cute little animals
They go to other zoos mate
I worked as a Secretary at the Zoo for 13 yrs. I saw a young White tiger cub on a lead on lawns led by keeper Mike Weston and as a 2 year old greeting Mike inside his enclosure standing tall with paws on his shoulders - wonderful
thers a huge difference between hunting and unlawful commercial hunting (poaching). no self respecting hunter would pursue a species to near extinsion to do so is extermination not hunting and unsustainable which is not in keeping with hunting ethics
Completely agree, especially for those who have relied on a certain food source since before the poachers arrive, their livelihood must be preserved as well
So sad. It's all about the money.
Erm ..no? It's about the space and the animals - the site has closed but the zoo will continue once the exhibitions & habitats at the new site have been built. You can still visit the Wild Place, Bristol Zoo's sister site and where the new Zoo will be built in the coming years
@@olo101olo if you read their reasons for closing, it is about the financial challenges Bristol Zoo have been facing since COVID and subsequent lockdowns. So it is about financial issues faced, not animal space. The animal spaces at Bristol Zoo were well suited for its population of smaller species.
@@koalamullet Okay, but talking to staff during recent visits the new Zoo site will allow them to focus on conservation of species the current site would not allow them to do so while money is, unfortunately an aspect in almost everything in our lives, one of the underlying aims is better fulfilled at a larger site where the animals are the focus and have more appropriate space - such at the Bear & Wolf woods at the Wild Place
Never forget all the memories! Lots of love forever!💚💜🦁🦍🐵🐘🦇🐸🐊🐍🦎🐢🐠🦗🐜🐝🦋🦂🌷🌱🌴🌿
We will miss you 🥺
